Russia and Iran buddy up in New York

Russian President Vladimir Putin  expressed the hope that he could travel to Tehran soon, and reiterated broadening of bilateral ties in economic, scientific and strategic areas. In a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani  on the sidelines of the 70th UN General Assembly in New York.

‘Iran’s right of making peaceful use of nuclear energy and removal of oppressive sanctions is laid emphasis on by Moscow,’ Putin said. He also called for mutual cooperation between Moscow and Tehran on fighting terrorism and restoration of regional and international security at a superior level.

Putin underlined his country’s resolve in removing the oppressive sanctions imposed by the West against Iran and described his Iranian counterpart’s role in striking a nuclear agreement between Tehran and the world powers as superior.

Cooperation between Iran and Russia is a strategic factor in the region’s security and stability, President Rouhani said for his part.

President Rouhani also highlighted the identical views of Iran and Russia on the regional and international issues.

The two presidents also stressed the success of cooperation between the two countries in various fields. Russian president said that Moscow is highly satisfied with bilateral cooperation.
