Last Year More than 6,3 mln International Visitors Visited Georgia

Georgia hosted record number of international visitors in 2016.

According to the National Agency of Tourism, visitors’ number is increased by 7.6% in 2016 and the figure amounted to 6 350 825.

Moreover, the number of international visitors, who stayed 24 hours and more in Georgia, had been increased by 19% and their number made up 2 714 773. However, the figure is more by 432 802 comparing to the same period of the previous year.

Most of the visitors have visited Georgia from neighboring Azerbaijan – 1 523 075 (+9.3%), Armenia 1 496 246 (+1.9%), Turkey 1 254 089 (-9.9%), Russia 1 037 564 (+12.0%) and Ukraine 172 631 (+21.8%).

“It should be noted, that the number of the international travelers from Russia has exceeded 1 million for the first time”, – George Chogovadze noted at the press-conference on Wednesday.

Positive trend is sustained with the EU countries, in terms of visitors’ number growth in Georgia. The following countries have been distinguished by the growing number through January-December: Latvia +24%, Lithuania +16%, Czech Republic +15%, Bulgaria +12% and Germany +11%. However, special increase is fixed from Iran (+485%), India (+199%), Saudi-Arabia (+116%), the Philippines (+89%), Oman (+75%) and China (+46%).
