International Tourist Arrivals up 7.6% in 2016

International tourist arrivals grew  7.6% in Georgia in 2016 compared to 2015, Giorgi Chogovadze, Director of the National Tourism Administration, said at a press conference today.

He noted that a total of  6 350 825 tourists visited Georgia in 2016. The largest number of  tourists arrived in Georgia from  Azerbaijan 1 523 075 (9.3%) , Armenia 1 496 246 (1.9%) , Turkey 1 254 089 (9.9%), Russia 1 037 564 (12.0%) and Ukraine 172 631 (21.8%).

It is worth noting that for the first time the number of tourists from Russia exceeded 1 million. A positive trend has been maintained in respect of  the EU countries. 

The number of tourists especially increased from Iran (485%), India (199%), Saudi Arabia (116%), the Philippines ( 89%), Oman (75%) and China (46%).

According to Chogovadze, the earnings f from the international tourism have increased as well and amounted to $1.7 billion.
