The Oldest Couple in Georgia

95-year-old Khasan and 94-year-old Zekhie Turmanidze got married in 1941. The couple lives in Keda municipality and have 162 descendants: 8 children, 37 grandchildren, 86 grandchildren and 31 grand-grand children.

The descendants of the Turmanidze family are mainly artists, especially following the singing tradition. They are descended from the famous composer and photographer Revaz Turmanidze and member of the first folk ensemble Guram Turmanidze in Adjara. The Turmanidze family has preserved a number of folk songs featuring the Mayor’s Gorge. Each year they host both Georgian and foreign folk groups.

In May the representatives of the Guinness Records Office of Georgia awarded Khasan and Zekyay with special certificates.
