Wheat Flour Regulations to Come into Force on January 1

The government changed its mind on the enactment of  technical regulations for wheat flour from September 1 and has postponed them until   1 January 2016.

According to the Agriculture Ministry, the technical regulations aimed at  determining  joint principles of regulation and consumer protection. Under technical regulations and the Georgian laws, the label should indicate the presence of any ingredient which is added to the wheat flour; should be safe; should not have any strange smell or taste, should not contain live or dead insects.

Depending on the milling, wheat flour is divided into extra, high-quality, fine, first degree, 2nd degree. Business operators  are also obliged  to protect the general hygiene requirements stipulated by the legislation. The new regulation applies only to soft wheat and or flour made from  savory wheat or its  mixture which is packed, packaged and placed on the market for consumption.
