“The gas storage facility project is very important for our country. This will be a strategic object, which is also socially useful. The gas storage will accumulate the amount of gas that will be enough for people’s consumption during the peak of cold winter,”said Nino Enukidze, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia on the importance of the agreement signed between the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation and the German Reconstruction Credit Bank (KfW) on” Arrangement of Underground Gas Storage on Samgori’s Southern Arch.
The construction of the gas station is scheduled to begin in 2019 and to be completed by about 2022 when Georgia will receive more cheap natural gas as a result of the second phase of Shahdenis.
“Given the second phase of the shahdenis gas reservoir, Georgia will get an increased amount of gas “said Nino Enukidze.
The agreement envisages the allocation of 150 million euros for the underground gas storage project. Construction will increase Georgia’s energy security significantly. The project ensures the settlement of seasonal imbalances between gas supply and consumption in the country and satisfy peak consumption during winter.
