In which form construction of Tbilisi Railway By-pass Project will be continued should become clear within a week.
According to Mamuka Bakhtadze, general director of “Georgian Railway”, 3 versions are worked out that are already submitted to Tbilisi Municipality. Respectively, the decision is expected from Tbilisi City Hall.
“We hold consolations with Tbilisi Municipality, the project is already submitted and we expect response from them. “Georgian Railway” has already submitted several variations. We are waiting for the City Hall’s decision. However, I should also note, that Tbilisi Municipality works on the general project of the city and this project must be joined on time to that plan. So, we expect the final decision in the nearest future,” Mamuka Bakhtadze told the press.
He explains, that the project was rejected by the experts at the time.
“Experts have rejected the project earlier, as capacity of the Railway has been significantly reduced. We all know, that construction of Deep Water Sea Port is the most important project, so we do not have the luxury to reduce railway capacity,” general director of Georgian Railway said.
Relying on the research of the Austrian company MC Mobility Consultants GmbH, Georgian Railway has worked out several scenarios to improve railway’s technical and economic performance indicators.
Georgian government has canceled Tbilisi Railway By-pass Project for an 18-month term which expired in September of this year.
“Joint enterprise of international tender winner company LLC China Railway 23rd Bureau Group and JSC Khidmsheni carried on the construction works of the project.
The new government disliked Tbilisi Railway By-pass Project in 2012 and suspended it. Today, the government changed its position and the Tbilisi Railway By-pass Project will be constructed with some modifications.
