Swiss company Stadler, the world’s one of the leading manufacturers of trains, plans to build a regional plant in Georgia. To this end, Tbilisi City Hall, Georgian Railway and Stadler Swiss company have signed a memorandum on mutual understanding.
The new plant is of crucial importance in terms of new job places, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said.
‘We have signed a memorandum with Stadler. The memorandum calls for starting negotiations for construction of subway cars and train carriages assembly-production plant in Georgia. This project will create many job places. This project is also important is terms of transport issues, because we plan to import new buses and train carriages. Our capital city will have new modern European Stadler carriages. I believe we will reach final agreement in this direction”, Kakha Kaladze said.
Stadler company has already implemented project of bi-level train – Stadler Kiss. The mentioned train runs on Tbilisi-Batumi-Tbilisi route and meet top European standards.
“Several years ago we supplied two bilevel trains to Georgia. And now we are negotiating the issue of opening a joint enterprise in Georgia to assemble new subway cars, provide technical assistance and ensure their exploitation”, Peter Spuhler noted.
“Stadler has taken decision to launch a regional plant in Georgia. It should be noted that the company owns plants of various capacities on almost all continents. Stadler company manufactures subway cars, passenger trains and trams. The mentioned plant will supply its products to the neighboring countries in the Region.
