Railroad infrastructure to Kutaisi International Airport will be extended in about a year, Giorgi Chogovadze, head of Georgian Airports Association noted.
There is an alternative project, under which the railroad infrastructure will be about 600 meter way from the terminal, Chogovadze told the Bsiness Morning.
Note that the transportation infrastructure near Kutaisi Airport announced by ex-Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili was to end in 2018, but in May 2018 Kvirikashvili extended the deadline by 1 year under the pretext of revision of the initial design.
Giorgi Chogovadze also talked about completion of the new terminal at Kutaisi International Airport. The new terminal will increase the airport’s transportation capacity 3-4 times.
“Structural part of the building has been already finished. Construction works are in the second phase, I mean coating and roofing. The third phase will start soon, installation of engineering systems and the fourth phase will end by the end of 2019”,Giorgi Chogovadze said.
The old and new terminals will be combined in 2020 and the transportation capacity of Kutaisi International Airport will grow. Today, the airport handles 300 passengers an hour and the figure will rise to 1200 passengers an hour. The number of gates will also increase to 7 ones from 3 ones, Giorgi Chogovadze said.
