Revision and legislative harmonization of the energy sector within the frames of the Association Agreement was discussed at the meeting initiated by the Parliamentary Committee on Sector Economy and Economic Policy, which was held in the Rooms Hotel Tbilisi with the support of the European Union and UNDP.
Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava participated in the workshop.
“As you know, the Government of Georgia, within the Association Agreement with the European Union, is working on harmonization of the energy market concept with the EU standards. The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development is, of course, actively involved in the process. We discussed this new energy market concept at today’s meeting,” – Natia Turunava told media representatives.
The Deputy Minister explained that the concept provides grounds for openness and competitiveness of the market. “Georgia is transformed into regional hub for various economic activities, including energy trade and energy. It is possible to trade freely across the entire region, establish an objective, competitive price and make the consumer more protected since the competition always serves for establishing of more optimal price and better quality. The reform will cover all these relevant reforms” – Turnava noted.
Members of Georgian Parliament, representatives of the Government and the experts of the field participated in the meeting.
