Government of Georgia has prepared a bill to legalize marijuana production in Georgia for exports purposes.
At the September 10 meeting of Georgian Dream party the Interior Ministry officials introduced the working variant of the bill calling for marijuana production for exports purposes.
Under the bill, marijuana production will be a licensed business. At the same time, discussions were held on whether to announce international competition and select the winner licensee through competition.
The license terms are expected to determine geographical zones for marijuana production, as well as the volume of production and so on.
According to IPN agency, sharp discussions and disputes were held over this issue at the majority’s meeting. The Georgian Dream chairman Bidzina Ivanishvili backs this idea. At the same time, the bill is expected to introduce certain restrictions for marijuana use. Namely, marijuana consumption will be banned at public schools, public facilities and in general public locations. Restrictions will be also applied to certain professions.
The legislative initiative will be supposedly submitted to the Government meeting in the near future.
