Government of Georgia plans to launch Imereti AgroZone Development project to promote the private sector in production of greens and other agriculture products in the volume and quality that will suffice for constant supply of products to EU market, Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said.
“This is a very important project – Imereti AgroZone project that was submitted by Ministry of Agriculture today. 100 million GEL will be invested under the public to private partnership (PPP) model to develop traditional field of Imereti Region – hothouse farms, promote local farmers to produce the required volume of products and export standardized Georgian products to high-standard markets such as EU and so on. This project calls for building hothouses, refrigerator and warehouse complexes”, the Georgian Prime Minister said.
Two logistics zone are being arranged in Georgia: Imereti, near Kopitnari airport and in eastern Georgia, near Rustavi, Giorgi Kvirikashvili said.
“Combination of Imereti AgroZone and logistics center will stimulate Imereti Region development. This project is to incentivize entrepreneurship and improve the local social picture. The project also calls for developing warehouse and cargo terminals in Kopitnari airport and this is very important for not only Kutaisi, but also the whole Region of Imereti and Georgia”, the Prime Minister said.
“Today we have situation, when there is real demand on EU market, we should just supply high-standard products in huge volumes”, he added.
