For the first time in the history of Energy Community of Europe, the regulatory body of the community (ECRB) will be presided by citizen of Georgia, GNERC member Giorgi Pangani. He will lead the Community regulatory board for 2 years.
According to GNERC, in several months after ratification of protocol on Georgia’s involvement in Energy Community, at the Athens meeting Giorgi Pangani was elected as ECRB President.
Giorgi Pangani plans to make emphasis on further integration of Energy Community member countries into European energy market, harmonization of legislation and promotion of adoption of new members in the Energy Community.
Energy Community is an international organization that is to spread Europe’s energy legislation and market principles in EU nonmember countries.
The organization was founded in compliance with international agreements in October 2005, in Athens, Greece. EU and contracting countries from South-East Europe and Black Sea Region are founders of the Energy Community. ECRB is one of the important institutions of Energy Community and it is a platform for sharing knowledge and experience in the energy markets regulation field.
Under Georgia-EU Association Agreement, Georgia has assumed obligation for implementing the third energy package of EU in power sector. For implementing the mentioned obligations, in 2016 Georgia signed a protocol on Georgia’s involvement in Energy Community. On July 1, 2017 Georgia became a valuable member of the Energy Community.
