Georgian and Latvian Railway Companies Sign Memorandum on Cooperation

David Peradze, director general of JSC Georgian Railway, and Edvīns BĒRZIŅŠ, chairman of the board of Latvian railway, have signed a memorandum on cooperation.

Objective of the memorandum is to shape bilateral cooperation between Georgian and Latvian railway companies and to prepare a preliminary framework agreement for developing multimodal transportation for connecting Scandinavian countries with the Caucasus, Central Asia and China. 

Container train ZUBR connects Latvian port of Muuga with the seaports of Ukraine – Chernomorski, Odessa and Iujni. From the Ukrainian seaports, cargo consignments are transported to Georgian seaports and the route is continued to Central Asia and Eastern Asia countries.

The Parties also agreed to exchange information on tariffs and market analysis for attracting more cargo within the mentioned corridor.
