Currency Exchange Offices in Georgia had Turnover of 9 Billion GEL in 2018

9,189,600,000 billion GEL entered in the exchange offices of Georgia in 2018. According to the data provided by National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat), during this period exchange offices have earned 12,700,000 GEL overall. Data also suggests that 6,700,000 individuals have used this service, which means that

the average amount of money that was exchanged is 1371 GEL, which equals to 510 USD or 450 EUR.

According to the report, out of those 6.7 million individuals 5.5 million were the citizens of Georgia and 1.1 million foreign citizens.

The distribution of different currencies looks as follows:

US Dollars: 

Purchased – 919 million USD, Sold – 904 million USD

Euro: 

Purchased – 279 million EUR, Sold 292 million EUR

Other currencies (total in GEL)

Purchased – 1.3 million GEL, Sold – 1.4 million GEL

739 exchange offices were functioning in Georgia in 2018 (without counting banks, microfinancial organizations and local units). 37.6% of these offices were located in Tbilisi, 31.3% in Adjara, 8.9% in Imereti, 8.5% in Kvemo Kartli, 3.9% in Kakheti, 3.2% in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and 3.7% in other regions.
