Construction of Solar Power Plant is Planned in Georgia

Construction of pilot Solar Power Plant is planned in Gareji Plateau, Sagarejo Municipality.

Feasibility studies are planed for the purpose of its construction, ownership and operation. Supposed installed capacity is up to 5 mgwt, annual output is over 8 mln kwh. However, feasibility studies of 50 mgwt Solar Power Plant should be carried at the area of City Gadrdabani and Village Kalinini.

Investment value of the project is not known yet. “Georgian Energy Strategy (2016-2025)” notes, that the sun’s effective and long-term shining is rather high due to the geographical location of Georgia. Shining period of the sun totals to 1900-22007 hours in major parts of the country. In addition, the volume of working hours totals to 10-15% in winter, while 30-35% in summer.

Sun’s total annual radiation ranges 1300-2500 kWh / m by the regions. In addition, Iori Plateau is most promising for taking solar energy, while the least promising – the Black Sea coast. Total solar energy potential in Georgia is 34 thousand t equivalent of standard fuel.
