Committee hearings will be held in Parliament with regard to the ratification of the Association Agreement today, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, told reporters.
According to her, she will be the main reporter on the day of the ratification of the Association Agreement on July 18 and therefore, tomorrow’s hearings are of big importance.
“All the issues interesting for lawmakers will be raised. Deputy Ministers of the agencies, which were engaged in the process, will be present. They will give detailed answers to lawmakers’ questions, while my report is going to be political’’,- she said.
According to her, given the fact that the European Union attaches great importance to the Association Agreement and its ratification, Štefan Füle, European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy, will arrive in Georgia on the ratification day. Füle will attend the ceremonial part of the ratification and then will deliver a speech at the plenary session. As Panjikdize noted, apart from Füle, Foreign Ministers of Latvia and Bulgaria will arrive in Georgia and attend this event.
As we reported, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that Russia would take measures in order to protect its own market, if Ukraine and Georgia’s Parliaments ratified the Association Agreements with the EU.
Medvedev said that measures would be similar to those that had been taken with regard to Moldova.
However, in the case of Georgia, trade relations with Russia continue to develop: Russia has recently increased the list of goods imported from Georgia.
Georgia Association Agreement with the EU was signed on June 27.
