Levan Kalandadze, Economic Analyst, comments on Georgia’s Chinese aspirations.
China is one of the most important and interesting directions for Georgia from the strategic point of view. I do not mean only a development of trade relations and Free-Trade regime establishment with China, but, first of all, I mean the investment potential and the interest China is showing to Georgia, as well as joint projects that may be implemented in Georgia.
Georgia posses serious potential for implementing investment projects, especially major investment projects. Therefore, proper and valuable employment of the Chinese factor will considerably change the whole picture in our country. Chinese investors are expected to show special interest in major energy, transportation infrastructure and agriculture projects, as well as communications and international logistics services that will transform Georgia into a regional hub of major international importance.
China carries out a very flexible and comfortable investment policy, especially for Georgia. At the same time, this is a cheaper resource that may bring additional comfort and benefits to Georgia if we ensure proper investment policy and offer proper investment projects to Chinese partners.
The Georgian Government’s first efforts for developing economic ties with China are successful. At this stage, we should outline specific priorities in a proper and efficient way to introduce proper investment offers and interesting projects to the Chinese Party.
