The Social Affairs Department at Tbilisi City Hall was tasked to carry out respective calculation on tariff subsidies. The Mayor of the city David Narmania said before the Cabinet meeting.
According to him, all the vulnerable families will receive assistance from the City Hall to cover the difference caused by changes in the electricity tariff.
“For our part, we’ll adopt a decision to subsidize an increase in electricity tariff for each vulnerable family. All the families who are socially vulnerable and in need of support, will be backed by the City Hall,” Narmania said and added that the budget includes relevant expenses.
As reported, the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) hiked the average price of electricity from 5.480 to 11.173 tetri per kW/h, which automatically leads to an increase of the consumer tariff in the capital. The new electricity tariff in Tbilisi will come into force from the date of publication of the decision of the GNERC.
