David Peradze, General Director of JSC “Georgian Railway” and President of Latvian Railway, Edwin Berdin, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in Riga, Latvia’s capital.
The aim of the Memorandum is to develop bilateral cooperation between Georgia and Latvia railway and develop a preliminary framework agreement for the development of multimodal transportation based on railways, according to which Scandinavian countries will connect to the Caucasus and then to Central Asia and China.
The container train ZUBR connects the Latvian port of Mugua to the ports of Ukraine – Chernomorsk, Odessa and Yuzhno. The cargos are delivered from Ukraine ports to Georgia’s ports, and the route continues through the middle corridor to Central and East Asian countries. The Parties agreed to exchange information on tariffs and market research in order to attract cargo in the corridor.
