Maestro TV Cancels Contracts with 32 Current Journalists

Local television channel Maestro TV cancels contracts with 32 of its Journalists working for BusinessContact and Business Morning programs.

The cancellation of journalists contracts comes after their expressed support for BusinessContact’s former director Giorgi Isakadze after Maestro TV’s new management fired him without any clear argumentation.

Since then Isakadze has expressed his willingness to come back to Maestro TV for the symbolic price of one lari on air of another local TV channel Rustavi 2.

Maestro TV’s current director Zurab Nakeuri issued a statement canceling contracts of four journalists who attended Rustavi 2’s late night program and expressed support for Isakadze and Rustavi 2’s ongoing legal dispute. This, according to Maestro TV’s director Zurab Nakeuri, was “a violation of journalistic integrity” by the Business Contact team.

The rest of Maestro TV’s BusinessContact and Business Morning journalists have since come forward to express their full support for former director Giorgi Isakadze, after which the TV management issued a statement cancelling 32 contracts of its current journalists.

Today BusinessContact journalists announced t their intent to sue Maestro TV’s management in Tbilisi court. The journalists plan to hold a press conference in this regard on Friday, July 1st.
