Internet-backed food delivery business Foodpanda has left the Russian market while in Georgia plans to expand the network.
Russin media reported that the company sold Russian Delivery Club, its operations in Russia to Mail.Ru Group for $100 million. It was a relatively short stay in Russia for Foodpanda. It first entered the Russian market in 2012 and bulked up in 2014 when it acquired local player Delivery Club.
Russia’s leading food delivery service Delivery Club owns over 2,500 restaurants. The value of the deal was undisclosed. Delivery Club, which will continue operating under its own brand, was founded in 2009, shortly before foodpanda, and is available in 18 Russian cities.
What are the German company’s plans in Georgia and whether the Russian transaction will have any impact on the Foodpanda’s activity in Georgia- “Commersant” tried to find out the details at Foodpanda Georgia office. As a director of the company Giga Kerkadze says, the Georgian representation is in no way connectedwith the Russian, so this deal will not affect the company’s Georgian branch.
In Kerkadze’s words, the company sees sales growth. Foodpanda is represented in Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Rustavi and Batumi where it plans to expand in the future.
Founded in 2012, foodpanda and its affiliated brand hellofood is the leading online marketplace for food delivery. The company provides an online and mobile marketplace with widest gastronomic range, enabling restaurants to bring their menus online and extend their customer base.
