The Fund Cartu handed over the Rugby stadium of the international standards to Batumi City Hall located on Leonidze Street, Batumi.
The Chairman of the Fund Cartu Nikoloz Chkhetiani, the Minister of Youth and Sports of Georgia Tariel Khechikashvili, the Chairman of Ajara AR Government Zurab Pataradze, the Mayor of Batumi George Ermakov and other government officials attended the ceremony. Rugby union President Gocha Svanidze and the Head of Rugby Union Regional Development Gaioz Moniava also attended the event.
The Chairman of Ajara AR Government Zurab Pataradze addressed the invited guests and rugby players of different age and congratulated on opening the new rugby stadium: ‘Infrastructural projects’ implementation is going on. Now we have the new stadium of the international standards, where many sports competition and international level-events will be held. Ajara is ready to develop sports tourism that is one of the main priorities for our region. I think many teams from different countries will arrive in the near future. I would like to congratulate each citizen of Batumi on opening a new facility.’
‘This is a great gift to every sportsmen. I would like to thank the Fund Cartu, Batumi City Hall and I am sure this stadium will host many international level competitions,’ – the Chairman of the Fund Cartu Nikoloz Chkhetiani said.
The base is located on area of 4,5 ha comprising 5 stadiums. The first and the major stadium has the natural playground and is designed for 2500 spectators. The artificial surface stadium is for 500 spectators. The third sand playground is for physical activity and training. The base is equipped with the modern lighting system that allows games and exercises to be held at nights. The complex is adapted for people with disabilities. It is equipped with a special parking area for spectators.
Construction works were started by the Association ATU in 2014. Total cost of the project is 7 million 355 thousand 157 Gel, out of which 3 million 596 000 Gel was allocated from Batumi budget. The Fund Cartu has already implemented 11 projects in the frames of Rugby State Development Program. The Fund continues to work in this direction.
At this stage, two more stadium bases are being built in Tbilisi and Telavi. The fund Cartu has already built 21 rugby stadiums in Georgia.
Rugby is particularly popular in Ajara. Over 900 sportsmen of different ages are involved in this sport in Ajara.
